Kirkwood Public Library Awarded Show Me Steps to Continuing Education Grant

The Kirkwood Public Library has been awarded a Show Me Steps to Continuing Education grant in order to assist with funding for further customer service training. The resulting in-service training, entitled Exceptional Customer Service in the Library: It’s NOT Optional at Kirkwood Library will occur on November 11, 2015.

Every Veteran’s Day, the Kirkwood Public Library is closed for business, but the library’s employees are hard at work to improve the library, brainstorming ideas on how to improve processes, equipment, and customer service. This focus on customer service will be aided this year with training funded by a Show Me Steps Continuing Education Grant from the State of Missouri, to occur on November 11, 2015. Staff from other libraries in the Municipal Library Consortium (MLC), including the Brentwood, Ferguson, Maplewood, Richmond Heights, Rock Hill, University, Valley Park, and Webster Groves Public Libraries, will also be in attendance.

Due to the funding provided by the Show Me Steps grant, Kirkwood Public Library will be able to bring in expert Tiffany Hentschel, SPHR, the Employee Relations Manager for the Johnson County government. A public sector HR worker for more than two decades, Ms. Hentschel is a member of the MARC Government Training Institute Supervisory Certificate training team and the Mid-America Library Alliance Speaker’s Bureau.

The Library will track the effectiveness of the training in a number of ways, immediately following the training and beyond through customer satisfaction and strategic metrics.
